Lamb Recipes - Potato Kheema Matar

Ingredients

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp oil

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 1 cm/1/2 in ginger root, finely chopped

  • 1 green chili, finely chopped

  • 2.5ml/1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 5ml/1 tsp ground coriander

  • 5ml/1 tsp ground cumin

  • 5ml/1 tsp garam masala

  • 900g/2 lb minced lamb

  • 3 potatoes, peeled and quartered

  • salt

  • 1 tomato, skinned and chopped

  • 225g/8 oz peas

  • 30ml/2 tsp chopped fresh coriander


Method:

  1. Heat the oil and fry the onions, garlic, ginger and chili over a medium heat until browned. Stir in the turmeric, coriander, cumin and garam masala and fry for 1 minute.

  2. Add the meat, potatoes, salt and tomato and stir thoroughly. Cover and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Stir in the peas and coriander, cove and simmer for about 5 minutes until the meat is cooked and the peas are tender. Serve hot with chapattis, dal and chutney.
