Seafood Recipes - Prawn Patia

Ingredients

  • 150ml/1/4 pt/2/3 cup oil

  • 3 onions, sliced

  • 8 green chilies

  • led red chilies

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 30ml/2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)

  • salt

  • 2.5ml/1/2 tsp ground coriander ( cilantro)

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp cumin seeds

  • 10ml/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 150 ml/1/4 pt/2/3 cup water              

  • 1 small mango, sliced

  • juice of 1 lemon

  • 450 g/1lb peeled prawns (shrimp)


Method:

  1. Heat the oil and fry the onions until browned. Grind together the chilies, garlic, coriander and salt and stir into the pan with the remaining spices and cook for 2 minutes.

  2. Add the water, mango , lemon juice and prawns and bring to the boil. Simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is quite dry.

  3. Serve hot with chapattis and vegetables.
