Seafood Recipes - Spiced Fried Plaice

Ingredients

Marinade:

  • juice of 1 1/2 limes

  • grated rind of 1 lime

  • pinch of ground turmeric

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)

  • 15ml/1 tbsp chopped fresh mint

  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 2.5cm/1/2 tsp salt

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 2 green chilies, seeded and chopped

  • 450g/1 lb plaice fillets

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 30ml/2 tbsp water

  • 100 g/4 oz/l cup breadcrumbs

  • oil for deep-frying


Method:

  1. Mix together the marinade ingredients. Make cut son each side of the fish and rub in the marinade. Leave to marinate for a least 30 minutes.

  2. Beat together the egg and water. Dip the fish in the egg then in the breadcrumbs.

  3. Heat the oil and fry the fish until golden brown. Drain on kitchen paper and serve immediately.
