Chutneys, Pickles and Relishes Recipes - Onion Chutney

Ingredients

  • 30ml/2 tbsp oil

  • 2 dried red chilies

  • 3 green chilies

  • 10ml/2 tsp black mustard seeds

  • 20ml/4 tsp split black beans

  • 2.5ml/1/2 tsp asafoetida

  • 3 onions, finely chopped

  • 1 small bunch fresh coriander (cilantro)

  • 5ml/1 tsp tamarind concentrate

  • salt


Method:

  1. Heat 15ml/1 tbsp of oil and fry the chilies, mustard seeds, split beans and  asafoetida until the seeds start crackling.

  2. Heat the remaining oil and fry the onions until golden. Grind all the ingredients to a fine paste. Serve with any main courses.
