Chutneys, Pickles and Relishes Recipes - Sindhi Mango Chutney

Ingredients

  • 1.1kg/2 1/2 lb green mangoes

  • 675g/1 1/2lb sugar

  • 450ml/3/4 pt vinegar

  • 5ml/1 tsp nigella seeds

  • 1 bulb garlic

  • 15ml/1 tbsp chili powder

  • 15ml/1 tbsp salt

  • 10ml/2 tsp black peppercorns


Method:

  1. Peel and slice the mangoes. Place the sugar and vinegar in a pan and stir over a low heat until the sugar has dissolved.

  2. Add all the remaining ingredients and simmer over a low heat for about 2 hours until the mangoes are soft and chutney has turned reddish-brown and thick.

  3. Leave to cool. Store in airtight jars in a cool, dry place.
