Chutneys, Pickles and Relishes Recipes - Sweet Chutney

Ingredients

  • 100g/4 oz tamarind

  • 300ml/1/2 pt water

  • 100g/4 oz jaggery

  • 5ml/1 tsp chili powder

  • 5ml/1 tsp coriander (cilantro) seeds

  • 5ml/1 teaspoon aniseeds

  • 5ml/1 tsp cumin seeds, roasted

  • salt

  • 15ml/1 tbsp chopped coriander (cilantro)


Method:

  1. Soak the tamarind in hot water then strain and extract the pulp.

  2. Grind the jaggery with all the remaining ingredients except the coriander, adding a little water to make the consistency you prefer. Serve garnished with coriander.
