Dals Recipes - Spicy Black Beans

Ingredients

75g/3 oz/1/2 cup split black
beans
-
75g/3 oz/1/2 cup yellow split
peas
-
600ml/ 1 pt/2 1/2 cups water
-
Pinch of ground turmeric
-
salt
-
30ml/2 tbsp ghee
-
Pinch of asafoetida
-
5ml/1 tsp cumin seeds
-
2.5ml/1/2 tsp chili
Method:
-
Boil the split black beans and
split peas in the water with the turmeric for 30
minutes. Add salt and simmer over a low heat for 10
minutes. Heat the ghee and fry the asafoetida, cumin
seeds and chili powder for 2 minutes. Add to the dal
and cook for a further 5 minutes. Serve hot with any
main courses.
