Rice Dishes Recipes - Rice and Green Beans Recipe

Ingredients

  • 100g/4 oz green beans, halved

  • 100g/4 oz basmati rice

  • 600ml/1 pt/2 1/2 cups water

  • 2.5ml/1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • salt

  • 5ml/1 tsp chili powder

  • 5ml/1 tsp garam masala

  • 15ml/1 tbsp ghee

  • pinch of asafetida

  • 5ml/1 tsp cumin seeds


Method:

  1. Soak the beans and rice for 30 minutes. Put the mixture into a pan with the water, turmeric, salt, chili powder and garam masala and bring to the boil over a medium heat.

  2. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes until the beans are tender. Heat the ghee in a separate pan and fry the asafetida and cumin seeds for 1 minutes. Sprinkle over before serving.
