Ingredients

175g/6 oz chick peas
(garbanzos), soaked overnight
-
10ml/2 tbsp oil
-
5ml/1 tsp mustard seeds
-
5ml/1 tsp split black beans
-
1 dried red chili, halved
-
2.5ml/1/2 tsp asafoetida
-
30ml/2 tbsp grated (shredded)

1/2 mango, chopped
-
1 green chili, chopped
-
juice of 1 lemon
-
salt
Method:
-
Cook the chick peas in boiling
water for about 1 hour until tender then drain.
-
Heat
the oil and fry the mustard seeds, split beans,
chili and asafoetida until the seeds start
crackling.
-
Add the remaining ingredients and simmer
for 2 minutes, stirring. Serve hot or cold.
